Healed through Prayer and Community
Healed through Prayer and Community
Julio Carriaga has been with Food for the Hungry since 2014. He has two brothers and their father and mother work as a fisherman and street sweeper respectively. But what people don’t know is that Julio is a survivor.
Last year, Julio figured in a life-changing accident that left him comatose for five days. He was just passing by when a street fight broke out and a rock was accidentally thrown at him. The rock hit his head and the next thing he knew; he was in the hospital. Diagnosis was bleak as doctors said that when he wakes up he will be in a vegetative state due to internal hemorrhage in the skull.
But God had other plans.
Julio, through prayers, emotional support, and medical assistance from FHP, survived the ordeal and woke up to live a normal life. Now, when he is not studying or doing extra-curricular activities, Julio helps at home by washing the dishes and sweeping the floor. His favorite subject is Social Studies. He also likes to play basketball with his friends.
He is inspired by his parents and wants to return the love and care they have given him. Julio’s dream is to become a police officer to help people in need and enforce peace and order in the community.
For Julio, his “second” life is a chance to pass on what he learned as an FH-child: to always look on the brighter side. In the eight years he has been with FHP, Julio found a supportive and caring family where he feels truly happy. The ordeal was just another wake up call to trust the Lord… and he was healed through the power of prayer and community.
